Little House weekend

For the weekend: 2 hour drive to a family reunion

Tour of my grandparents home place and were my mother and her brother and two sisters spent summers romping in the fields, pumping water, running around the house flipping switches because they finally installed electricity. We will see the fields were my 8 yr old mother would carry onion and butter sandwiches for my grandpa in a tin pail. The back yard that my grandpa would flood ever fall so the girls could ice skate and the highway where my mother would hold on to a rope while roller skating behind grandpa's car....eeegads.....

Nostalgia family, hugs, laughter and goodbyes to those that we won't see again for another two years.

Have a Happy Weekend!!

Making :: Finding

Gifts for little friends:: and their frequent trips to the library:: Easy totes to tote their goods::

Above (as I am sure you guessed) was a pillow case in a former life. Add to that left overs from a quilt-that is sitting waiting paiently to be quilted and some frill from this find.

This is for him made from left overs from other projects. Love that cowboy fabric!

Found the little lovely below in a Free box at the sales from the weekend. It was stained and stinky:: I was not afraid:: Now soaked, washed and hung for that outside heaven sent -scent::it is perfect (well almost).

Have a happy Wednesday!!

Best .25 I ever spent!

While out and about on our weekend scavenging I came across this book. First the colors on the cover caught my eye. Well for.25 I thought I would take it home. Boy am I glad I did if I hadn't I would never know:

The many, many shapes of fashion! Or:

How to get this great book...Without it I am not sure I will ever know "what men find most attractive in women" or:

How to get this great pattern with peek-a-boo arm holes!! Besides I need to know:
How to travel light plus I can play - find the combinations game!!
More importantly I don't want to feel like:
This - chained to my machine-sweating for my wardrobe- I want to feel like:
This -all dreamy scheme-y about my beautiful new wardrobe!!! Yup best .25 I ever spent!! Now I am off to pluck some super high arches in my eyebrows.

Community Wide

I love this embroidered tablecloth I want to live in that cottage-behind are 2 feed sacks

Ahh the community wide garage sales were this past weekend. In a town such as I live in where time is different, slower, calmer, I sometimes feel as though I am in the midst of a Norman Rockwell painting. The garage sales this weekend were no exception, we rode around town on our bikes checking out the sales. Sometimes ducking back home to drop off bags so that I did not look like a complete vagrant, greeting others who did the town on foot. Here sales are as they should be- filled with treasures, idle chit-chat and lots of lemonade.

I found this table cloth- oh I love it- and it is signed- I don't have a clue if that means anything but I thought it was cool. The price was right .25!

These are little Valentines that I think I will frame they remind me of the Campbell's kids.

I've a notion to get me some notions - like I need more- but I couldn't resist they are Miss America Pearls for crying out loud.

The little jar below was a milk sampler and a freebee then the buttons-I don't which I liked better the buttons or the jar they came in.

That zipper is the smallest I have ever seen- I wish there would have been more then one that size- it is really cute- that is if a person can find cuteness in a zipper-

I have never collected thimbles but I guess I do now they were a dollar each and so cute.

This is my favorite find, we needed a couch in our family room, we have been looking for over a year- and I found this- I had to do some convincing with my Husband-he finally consented it is all metal and folds out into a bed. I am not much for the ivy but will eventually recover it. I have visions of it sitting on my wrap around porch one day- when I live in that cottage above and we add on a wrap around porch that is. We paid $15 for it a bargain I think.

Aborigine or Ab-Original?

On my to-do list this summer is cleaning out our garage which is full of the contents from this event oh so long ago. (I promise there will come a time when I will stop going back to this) Maybe, anyway-cleaning out the garage- well you know what happens when you have a rift in the order of the things....It starts out all well and good and things were put in the garage in a semi orderly fashion and then you need something and you dig -just a little- and pretty soon the rift become a chasm and the chasm becomes a black hole. That is the state of our garage- a giant black hole that seems to multiply junk. So I decided to clean it out. Now my boys have de-junk glasses and only see treasures, a point you can see in the new hair style of my son. And dress up clothes from days gone by, well just make them fit in a new way. Oh and paint your face with mud cuz that is how they used to do it!!!

Posted by PicasaNow that bow he is sporting and the cardboard axe above where both created from the mind of his brother (Nolan). The bow is a stick and twine and would you believe it actually works really well? One time I bought Nolan a roll of electrical tape and he was the happiest little boy ever!!

We be Jammin

I am not sure what says summer better then a hot a steamy kitchen bubbling with the scents of strawberry rhubarb jam. Jars filled with warm sweet goodness dance in the soft boiling water of the canner. I love the popping sounds the lids drum out when the jars are placed on the counter.

The littlest jar above was filled and eaten warm three times over before my helpers had their fill.
