Trash to Treasure:: Curtain Call

My sister had a Creamery in the 80's where she sold household items, crafts and country decor. I specifically remember the goose and pineapple themed items that were popular in country decorating at that time. She also had curtain samples. Several years ago, okay 8 years ago, she gave me a box of the curtain samples. The following curtain has lived its life in my head until yesterday.

I simply laid out all the samples, putting like widths together, trimmed them so that they could be sewn in four panels. I top-stitched the panels (to showcase their pretty edges) and then sewed the four panels together.

Conveniently enough there was a valance to top-stitch to the whole piece- it determined my finished size. I had just enough of the eyelet samples to make the above curtain. The trees are my favorite part. I did sew a hankie on and another piece of lace to cover up a stain that I couldn't remove. They have been living in storage for a long time. Now this curtain is rightfully out of my head and on my window. Coincidently I feel a little lighter in the noggin because of it, perhaps now a few new ideas can move in!!


A curtain like this could easily be done with different cuts of eyelet or lace.  I love the sheerness of it, we get great afternoon sun through this window- too much light for a bare window but this will allow it to shine through without rendering us blind and all squinty- quit commical at dinner- but uncomfortable.
